Abstract Title:
The Creation and Evaluation of a Pilot Food Safety Course for Food Business Operators at Barangay Holy Spirit, Quezon CityBiography:
Despite the passage of the Food Safety Act (FSA 2013) and with local business requirements, there is still no (100%) assurance that the food individuals eat in establishments is truly safe for consumption. Currently, no city ordinance or barangay resolution requires mandatory attendance in a food safety course for food business operators (FBOs) and food handlers. This is a Descriptive Qualitative study. A survey questionnaire determined the (FBOs) demographic profiles and attributes. The researcher also created a pilot food safety course (FSC) and used it for (FBOs) in (BHS), Quezon City. Out of the 118 (FBOs) surveyed, (64%) had not received any food safety training, (44.92%) relied on their experience as a source of knowledge on food safety. The researcher proposes a free food safety course that can be used in barangay. This will be in support of the FSA of 2013. Keywords: Food Safety, Food Safety Act of 2013, Food Safety Course
